Corrie Craig founder of Mardi Gras La’MI nonprofit in Lansing Michigan bringing Louisiana culture to the community

About Corrie Craig

Corrie was born and raised in Jennings, Louisiana, where Mardi Gras wasn’t just a holiday, it was a way of life. From childhood, she grew up surrounded by the colors, music, food, and traditions that define Louisiana culture. Mardi Gras shaped her community, her identity, and her understanding of what it means to celebrate life with joy, unity, and purpose.

For Corrie, Mardi Gras has never been “just something to do every year.” It is heritage. It is family. It is culture. It is a living expression of love, acceptance, creativity, and Southern values where everyone has a place, and everyone is welcome.

After relocating to Lansing, Michigan, Corrie felt called to share the same spirit that raised her. Mardi Gras La’MI was created as a bridge between the South and the North, and is an opportunity to introduce Lansing to the warmth, flavor, and cultural richness of Louisiana in a way that is authentic, educational, and community‑building.

Our Story

Bring people together. Celebrate differences. Create joy. Build community.
Mardi Gras La’MI is intentionally designed to be an event that transcends race, politics, age, gender, and anything else that divides us. It is a space where Lansing can come together, learn something new, and experience something beautiful, just like the communities Corrie grew up in.

With every bead, every beat, every dance step, and every krewe, Corrie is committed to “Bringing the Flava of the South to the North” in a way that honors her roots and uplifts her new home.

Laissez les bon temps rouler,  let the good times roll.
